Important Tips to Maintain Your Motor Home

Camper Queen on Jan-29-2011

Owners of recreational vehicles like motor homes find great entertainment and joy in owning such units. If you are a happy owner of a motor home, then it is essential to make sure that the fun goes on by maintaining your RV well enough for it to continuously operate smoothly.

You must take several necessary steps to make sure that your source of traveling convenience and entertainment is well maintained.

Instead of constant maintenance however, what your RV really needs is an abundance of attention. On a long-term basis, caring for your motor home must be equivalent to the combined attention and care you devote to both your permanent house and standard vehicle. Simple maintenance however only requires you to follow certain routines right after each of your motor home travel adventure just to make sure that it will look nice, feel comfortable and run smoothly on your future pleasure trips.

It would certainly be a nightmarish experience to be marooned on an unfamiliar area because your RV’s engine overheated or that its battery died. Making sure that your motor home’s drive train and engine are constantly taken care of will make sure that this kind of experience never touches you in reality.

Find time to change its oil on a regular basis. Refill all the necessary fluids to keep it in top performance level. Monitor its battery to keep it from corroding and routinely check out the pressure on its tires. Recreational vehicles are mainly used for long road trips, such that they usually run for a lot more miles compared an average car that’s being used on a daily basis. Thus, do not forget that you have to perform routine maintenance procedures on your motor home, like changing its oil, etc. more often than you do with other vehicles.

As for the “home” aspect of your RV, the most common thing you have to look out for is the moisture buildup in its interior. Mildew and staining issues could occur because of the frequent use of the shower and kitchen stove. You can always avoid such matters by making sure that the RV’s roof vent is always open, as well as the bathroom fan, whenever someone must use the shower.

Closing all the vents, windows and doors of the RV while someone is using the shower can be a great help. This will ensure that the moisture will float out to the vehicle’s roof vent. During cold weathers and you happen to be travelling still, avoid using the stove to boil water or cook. Instead, using the microwave is much more preferable during such conditions.

Do you usually encounter clogged drains in your permanent home’s kitchen? If you do, keep in mind that you will have the same battle in your RV’s kitchen area. The drains need to be cleaned out regularly as you would do to the drains on your permanent home. Detach the bathroom sink and clean it manually on a regular basis like once a month or once every other month. Putting your garden hose to high-pressure mode would be the ideal thing to blast your RV’s shower drain clean.

Before you store your motor home in preparation for the winter months, remember to drain out all of the water lines. Failing to do this before storage, the temperature inside of it may drop and the remaining water in it may become frozen, start expanding until the water lines or pumps of the RV bursts out. You may face quite an expensive maintenance bill if this happens.

When you are out traveling in your RV and are close to the Cincinnati area, make sure to stop by the Colerain RV center for all of your RV needs. We service all kinds of RV’s from pop up to diesel pushers. Ask for Aline Parsley if you have any questions or looking for that new camper. Saving Up Upon the First Purchase

To start off, it would be best to do savings even on the initial part of the first purchase. As we all know, vehicles prices are one of the commodities that easily depreciate, therefore, can be frustrating to know if price depreciation strikes you especially when you made your purchase with an extremely high price just a little earlier. While doing your savings, you should be well-knowledgeable of how or where to get the best deals in new motorhomes.

Plan Ahead

There are many dealers out there. Because of this, the tendency is to get excited and tempted to readily make a purchase. However, it is always advisable to make your plans right before doing so. First of all, the budget is a very important factor in this phase. To fit in your budget, you should first learn what essentials and amenities you would require or will need in the future. This will help narrow down your choices.

Canvass and Look Around

After the planning, you can start looking around. Comparing prices and canvassing around will help you expand the search whether from local to international dealers. In these days, it is wise to rely on the internet when searching for the best motorhomes dealer. A wide selection of these vehicles can be found on the internet, and can be available in different prices. And whether discounted or lowered, it is best to search through them thoroughly to avoid mistakes.

When you find a motorhome model that is just recently released, it is advised to check its price at the end of the year as it is often that you will find it lower than at its initial price release. Be patient and don’t get excited too much.

Loans and Deals When Budget Does Not Fit

If you are short on your budget, you can always consider taking motorhome loans. These services are now very accessible, and likewise you can take advantage of via the internet. Once you get the loan, you can transact with your dealer for the price. Discounts are most usually available and can be given especially if you pay in cash. Otherwise, you can find ways how to get discounted rates if you have to pay by installment.

The tips above can be very useful if you so want to buy a motorhome and avoid getting depressed when depreciation occurs. Maximizing your resources will aid a lot not only to avoid the pains of the depreciation but to get the right or dream motorhome that fits your preference, needs, and expectations.  If you want to purchase a motorhome from a reputable dealer that you can trust, call or visit Alene at Colerain RV at 513-539-0000.

Tips for renting an RV in 2010

The Camper Couple on Mar-27-2010

Most people that have plans for traveling long distances do rent RVs for the pure fun and luxuries of having home-like features with them. Having the comfort of home can help anyone with their travel needs and wants. You need to keep in mind a few things when you do rent an RV. Let’s look at a few of them now.

The first thing would be to make sure you are comfortable driving and RV. Some RVs are very large and do require more attention when driving them. Others are small and are almost like driving a van or pick-up truck. The larger ones are taller, and you need to make sure you watch for things like low hanging branches off of trees, or low over hangs in front of buildings for example.

Compare the pricing when you are renting an RV. You may find that there is more than one place that rents RVs and will give you a better rate just to get your business. Just keep in mind, compare apples to apples when you do this. Make sure to get the same or better RV for less money. Also make sure the company has a good track record on services when you are on the road and need help. This is very important. You would rather pay a little more for having a good service than not to have it when the need arises.

Make sure to know how to operate everything in the RV. Most will have a owners manual with them and it would be advised to go through it before you take off on any trip. Most places that rent RVs will go over the amenities with you, however, sometimes just reading about it will help you remember it better. As always, they will supply you with a phone number if you forget how to do something, and all you do is call them and they will get you up and going.

When you rent your RV, make sure to read all of the fine print on the contract. This will explain in detail of what you are responsible for while the RV is in your possession. You don’t want any surprises when you get back from your trip and they charge you extra for something you thought was part of the rental, when it was not.

Insurance for these RVs are not like regular insurance and would be advised to take the insurance that the rental place offers. Their policies specialize in these types of vehicle and these vehicles alone. Most car policies will not even come close in covering RVs, so make sure to ask your agent about this before going to rent the RV.

These are just a few of the things to think about when renting an RV. Just keep in mind that common sense goes a long way when it comes to driving one of these Riggs. If you are not comfortable driving the big RVs, then start small and work your way up to a larger unit later when you get the experience you need. And always remember to have a safe and fun trip.

How to Stay Safe and Have Fun Traveling in your RV

The Camper Couple on Mar-26-2010

More and more people are planning road trips by RV. Many couples and families are finding motor homes a relatively affordable way to travel. Many also enjoy the option of traveling on the road while still having many of the comforts of home. This is particularly true with long distance trips. Whether your next RV trip is a long distance or a short distance trip, there are a number of steps that you can take to help ensure that your next trip is not only fun, but safe.

The first step in planning a fun and safe RV trip involves deciding on an intended route. This can help on a number of different levels. For safety, deciding on a route ahead of time gives you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with that area by examining maps. Even with an examination done beforehand, it is still important to bring a travel map with you. In fact, if you are an RV owner, a up to date map should be kept in your motor home at all times.
Deciding on an intended route ahead of time can also help you with activities and attractions. Many RV owners and renters are known for stopping along the way to participate in fun activities or to visit neat attractions, like flea markets, amusement parks, or museums. Researching what you can do and see before you leave for your RV trip can help to make sure that you will not miss out on anything fun and exciting. It can also help you create a travel budget for yourself.
Speaking of money, it is important to have extra money on hand, especially for long distance travels and trips. This is important for safety, as well as fun. Always remember that gas prices vary from city to city and from state to state. Money is also nice to have on hand if you ever decide to make any unexpected stops along the way, however, use caution. Do not carry too much cash on you or leave it all in one place. For travelers, traveler’s checks, debit cards, and credit cards are a great idea.
For safety, be sure to bring all needed documents with you. These documents should include the proper identification, like a driver’s license, and insurance cards, such as those for health and auto. Health insurance cards are particularly important. If you or anyone in your traveling party, like your family, suffers an injury, you will want to be able to get help and treatment right away. This is best done by having all proper documents, including health insurance cards, readily available.
As stated above, researching fun and popular activities and attractions that are along your intended route of travel is a great idea. Also, be sure to plan activities for the road. The good news is that you have a lot of options, as RVs give travelers more room than traditional cars. If a television is present, movies are a good option. Video games, board games, card games, and reading books are also great activities for the road.
For safety, be sure to use your best judgment. For example, does an area that you wish to stop at look dangerous or unsafe? If so, you may want to continue moving on and get gasoline or food at another place, when possible. It is also important to keep safety in mind when staying at an RV park or a public campground with motor home accommodations. Never invite strangers onto your RV, especially right away. If you are traveling with children, be sure to set ground rules.
Keeping the above mentioned points in mind, your next RV trip is likely to be both fun and safe. Remember that fun and safety go hand in hand. You will all have a better time if you stay safe and healthy, and have a lot of fun along the way.

How to Keep Costs Down While Traveling in Your RV

The Camper Couple on Mar-9-2010

Traveling by RV is a relatively affordable way to travel.  However, many are still concerned with the cost.  Just a few of the many ways that you can help to reduce or at least limit the costs associated with traveling in a motor home are outlined below.

If you do not already own a motor home, you will want to consider all of your options.  For starters, do you have a close friend or family member who would let you borrow their RV or even rent it?  If so, this approach is often much cheaper than dealing with a professional RV rental company.  Speaking of RV rentals be sure to examine all of your options.  If you have access to two or more motor home rental companies, be sure to compare prices.  The largest expense of traveling in a motor home is renting or buying one to travel in.

Another great way to help reduce the cost of traveling by RV is to stock up on supplies when they are on sale.  This is ideal for long distance trips, as you likely need more supplies, including food, drinks, snacks, and toiletries.  Even if you are interested in taking a last minute RV trip, you can still save money.  You can do this buy shopping at stores that you already know have low prices.  Watching what you buy and asking yourself, “Do we really need this? “Is an easy way to save money.

Before you leave for your trip, make sure that you fill up your gas tank.  What is nice about doing so locally is that you likely already have a good idea as to which gas stations have the cheapest prices.  Of course, you will never want to run low too long on gas when on the road, but if you can stop in well populated areas, you may be able to save money.  Well populated areas often give you access to multiple gas stations all in a short distance.  This makes it easier to find the cheapest gas prices.  If possible, avoid isolated gas stations, as they often have the highest gas prices.

If you will be staying at a public campground or an RV park, take the time to compare prices.  This can be done as soon as you have a destination in mind.  Many areas in the United States and Canada have multiple RV parks or public campgrounds with motor home accommodations.  This includes full electric hook up and primitive sites.  Remember that not all charge the same rates.  That is why you should compare prices.  You can easily find information on campgrounds and parks online.  If rates are not posted online, a quick phone call can get you the answers that you need.  Comparing rental rates for motor home accommodations can save you a considerable amount of money, especially on long distance trips.

If you are traveling to visit friends or family, see if you can park and stay on their land, even if you must do so in their driveway.  This can save you a considerable amount of money.  It also gives you the opportunity to spend as much time as possible with those that you are visiting.

There are a number of steps that you can take to limit or reduce the cost of traveling by RV.  Additional ways that you can save money include preparing your meals in your motor home, as opposed to eating at restaurants.   Take all that was said here and save yourself a lot of money when traveling with your RV.
